Collapse of Highway Overpass in South Korea Claims 4 Lives

4 Worker’s Lives Claimed, 5 in Serious Condition, 1 Suffered Minor Injury, in Collapse.

What Exactly Occured?


On Tuesday, February 25th at around 9:49am, in Cheonan, South Korea, a highway that was under construction collapsed, killing 4 workers on site and injuring 6 others. 10 workers were working on the site when all of a sudden, 5 steel structures that were supporting the bridge collapsed, and trapped some of them in the heavy pieces of rubble.

1 worker was found dead in the rubble, while 8 injured workers were sent to nearby hospitals. 2 were declared deceased there later on. The 10th worker, who was missing for several hours, was eventually discovered in the rubble, dead. 5 remained in serious condition, and one suffered a minor injury. Around 50 fire trucks, 3 helicopters, and 150 personnel with equipment were sent to continue the rescue effort. Sources say the initial cause of the collapse was unknown.
