Statement:
As more reports of gun violence continue to surface here in Worcester, Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell responded to a decision from the First Circuit Court of Appeals about gun laws in Massachusetts. In Capen and National Association for Gun Rights v. Campbell, the court ruled that the state’s ban on assault weapons and large capacity magazines can stay in place for now, while the case continues on. This ban will make it illegal to sell or own certain guns and large bullet holders. Campbell said the following statement in response to the ruling:

“Massachusetts has some of the strongest common sense gun laws in the country, and we know they are effective in ensuring our communities, especially our children, remain safe. The recent First Circuit Court of Appeals’ decision to uphold Massachusetts’ assault weapons ban is a tremendous victory for our state, and I will continue to vigorously defend these laws.” – Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell.
