Bad Bunny’s upcoming Super Bowl halftime show has netizens discussing online, with opinions split between excitement and criticism.
Many praised the Puerto Rican rapper and singer for representing Latin culture on one of the world’s biggest stages. Supporters on social media celebrated the NFL’s choice, calling it “historic” and “a win for Latino pride.”
However, some conservatives criticized the decision. President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson questioned why Bad Bunny was chosen, with Johnson suggesting country singer Lee Greenwood as a better fit. Turning Point USA even announced an “All-American Halftime Show” to counter his performance, celebrating “Faith, Family & Freedom” according to their announcement.
Tomi Lahren, an American conservative political commentator and television presenter, asked Krystal Ball, an American political commentator and media host, during a debate “Do you think Bad Bunny is a good choice for the Superbowl?” Ball responded with “I’m not that like knowledgeable about him, but it seems fine and I don’t know why it’s a big deal. Uhm, seems like a great American artist so, sure.” “He’s not an American artist, but – ” Lahren responded back. “He’s Puerto Rican – that’s part of America, dear.”

Conservative political commentator Benny Johnson shared on X how Bad Bunny is a “Massive Trump hater – Anti-ICE activist – No songs in English. The NFL is self-destructing year after year.”
On a more positive note, others via Newsweek responded to Johnson with the following: “I suggest Johnson take a look at past Super Bowl performers and see how many ‘role models’ performed. It appears MAGA wants to turn the Super Bowl halftime show into a propaganda outlet for views they, and only they, deem appropriate.”-LifeGoesOn
“Even at 71 years old, I had heard of Bad Bunny. But it took this controversy to actually sit down and say, ‘Alexa, play some Bad Bunny.’ And you know what? He’s really, really good. So I applaud the NFL’s decision. Their intention may have been to bring football to a younger audience, but they are also bringing new music to an older audience not otherwise exposed to it.”-MydogHasfleas, Newsweek.

Bad Bunny responded humorously to everyone during his Saturday Night Live monologue, saying viewers “have four months to learn Spanish.” “But really, I’m very excited to be doing the Super Bowl, and I know that people all around the world who love my music are also happy,” Bad Bunny continued, then adding in Spanish, “Especially all of the Latinos and Latinas in the world here in the United States who have worked to open doors. It’s more than a win for myself, it’s a win for all of us. Our footprints and our contribution in this country, no one will ever be able to take that away or erase it.”
Super Bowl LX will take place on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Despite controversy, Bad Bunny remains focused on celebrating culture, unity, and music!
