Democrat Zohran Mamdani won the 2025 New York City mayoral race with 1,036,051 votes (50.4%), defeating independent candidate Andrew Cuomo, who received 854,995 votes (41.6%), and Republican Curtis Sliwa, who earned 146,137 votes (7.1%).
Mamdani led across most boroughs, winning Brooklyn (56.8%), Manhattan (52.7%), and the Bronx (51.5%), while Cuomo performed strongest in Queens (43.0%) and among moderate voters. Sliwa drew limited support citywide but reached nearly 10% in Queens.
After defeating Cuomo in the June Democratic primary, Mamdani’s campaign focused on affordable housing, public transit, and combating hate crimes. Although incumbent Mayor Eric Adams dropped out of the race this fall, his name still appeared on the ballot as a third-party candidate. Mamdani’s victory marks a clear shift toward progressive leadership as he prepares to take office in January 2026. Share your thoughts by clicking the comment button on your right-hand side.
