Last Thursday, Doherty’s business students hosted the 1st Annual Maker’s Market Business Fair. Over the past school year, students in Ms. Falcucci’s class were expected to come up with a business idea, research markets, calculate a break-even point, design branding and advertising, and even create a prototype. Then, they presented all their hard work at the business fair. For 2 hours in the main lobby, the business students were busy explaining their business plan and showing off their prototype to a throng of teachers, parents, and their fellow students. Visitors to the fair were encouraged to fill out a feedback sheet for each business.
Overall, it was a crowded experience, but the business students did a great job under the pressure and showed off some really great ideas.
But without any further ado, let’s highlight some businesses!
OmniTech Industries specializes in custom graphics design for their clients, including creating all the graphics for the variety of banners and posters scattered around the business fair.
Graphite Gear‘s goal is to make a smart pencil distribution solution, and their impressive prototype showed it! Insert a quarter or similar token, and a pencil immediately pops out from the side for any student who didn’t come prepared to class.
Arm Cloud‘s comfy shoulder pads are perfect for any heavy bag. Wrap an Arm Cloud around the handles of a bag and it’ll provide some much-needed relief and stop the uncomfortable handles from digging into your skin.
Chippery Chips sells 3 delicious flavors of homemade potato chip, a savory flavor, a spicy flavor, and even a sweet flavor!
Amigurumi Adventures sells affordable crocheted products, ranging from adorable animals to warm scarves to eye-catching outfit accessories!
Lumiere Candles provides gorgeous, aromatic candles — and they’re all homemade!
Mamdi Mendhi creates beautiful, authentic henna, perfect for a special occasion.
Doherty Dough bakes delicious pastries. For the business fair, they provided tasty chocolate-dipped macaroons!
I can’t highlight every single business at the fair (there were so many!) but I did my best to get a photo of every booth there, so here’s all the rest of them I got. Sorry if I missed you, but some spots were so busy I couldn’t get close, such as a beauty boutique applying free falsies.
This year’s Maker’s Market Business Fair was a hit and everyone involved did a fantastic job — I can’t wait to see what the business students will come up with next year!
