It was a sunny spring morning on Thursday, May 8, 2025; right here in Worcester, Massachusetts. Just 3 miles down from this school a mother and daughter’s life was changed forever. ICE agents take a mother into custody while the daughter screams in fits of rage. The police were said to have been dispatched to de-escalate an intense situation but the video footage suggests otherwise. They pry a baby from the teen’s arms, slam the her on the ground while they arrest her, and charge her with reckless endangerment of a child, disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.
“I mean, there was a lot of police here and I don’t understand what Worcester Police is doing, trying to facilitate these horrible detentions and deportations, some of which are illegal.”
Said Siobhan McGrath, a bystander talking to NBC Boston. Eric Batista, Worcester City Manager, recently released a statement stating “The series of events was no doubt disturbing, and the footage of a family being separated is harrowing.” Harrowing indeed and the rest of the community seemed to think so as well.
To combat this local ICE raid, protesters got the the streets on May 11, 2025, at 2 p.m. Called the Hands Off Worcester Mothers; the protest was organized by the nonprofit organization Mass50501 in order to express frustration with these unjust raids and raise awareness on this pressing issue. There was said to be over 200 people at the spontaneous rally. All showing support for the split family. The mother was charged with criminal offenses and a bench trial is expected on July 18 of this year. Let us know your thoughts below.
