Doherty is proud to announce its 2025 – 2026 Robotics Team. Our team is full of energy as students, mentors, and supporters gear up for what promises to be an exciting year for new innovations.
Under the leadership of dedicated faculty advisors and community mentors, the Doherty Robotics Team, continues to grow as a hub of creativity and engineering excellence.
What Is Robotics?
Robotics club is a group of students who come together to build, program, and compete with robots. It’s a place filled with creativity, technology, and teamwork. At Doherty High and many others, the robotics club gives students hands-on experience with:
-
Designing and building robots using tools and hardware
-
Programming robots to follow instructions or complete tasks
-
Working as a team to solve problems and compete in events
-
Learning real-world STEM skills (science, technology, engineering, math)
What Do You Do in Robotics Club
-
Build robots that move, lift objects, or complete missions
-
Compete in regional and national competitions like FIRST Robotics
-
Learn new skills like coding, electronics, and mechanical design
-
Collaborate with other students, mentors, and community members
-
Have fun while learning and trying new things
Who Can Join?
Anyone can join—no experience needed! Whether you’re a freshman looking to try something new or a senior ready to dive deeper into engineering or technology, the Robotics Club is open to all students who are curious, creative, and excited to learn.
You don’t need to know how to build a robot or write code before joining. The club is a supportive, team-based environment where everyone learns together. Mentors, experienced students, and teachers will help guide you every step of the way.
Here are just a few of the roles you can explore:
-
Engineering & Building: Love working with your hands? Help design and build the physical structure of the robot using tools, materials, and mechanical parts.
-
Programming & Problem-Solving: Interested in coding or logic? Learn how to write programs that tell the robot what to do using real-world programming languages.
-
Design, Media & Marketing: Like being creative? Help design team logos, make videos, manage social media, and create presentations that show off the team’s work.
-
Strategy & Planning: Enjoy analyzing situations and planning ahead? Join the team that develops game strategies and helps the robot perform its best during competitions.
Whether you’re a tech genius, a future artist, a problem solver, or just someone looking for a fun and meaningful challenge, there’s a place for you in the Doherty Robotics Club.
Join to learn, grow, and maybe even discover a passion or career path you never expected!
Quick Interview:
Here’s a quick interview with Doherty’s Robotics Club president Jorgea:
Q. How is the club going right now?
“Okay so, this year we have made a lot more progress than last year. It’s kind of like something that we’re starting to do here, last year there were only 5 people and uhm it was me and four other people that usually came here but this year I stepped up as president and I decided that I’m gonna keep this club alive, right ’cause four of us are graduating and only one of them is a junior.
Q. What’s going on so far?
“The first day we went over a slide show, what robotics is, what we do here and what’s the whole point of being here. Some people come in here to hangout, like talk to friends and build a community and some others want to learn engineering and how to compete in Robotics. We do both of those things and we have a robotics team that focuses on more of the game elements and the robotics club which focuses on the fun aspects of it. We do have more of a competitive team that has been here for a long time.”
Q. How do you feel about this club?
“Yeah I love it here, it’s like my second home I spent so much time here in the ETA and it’s great.”
Q. Do you think the club will succeed in the near future?
“I mean it takes a lot of dedication to be here like you want to have some sort of passion for this thing and right know I don’t know, I am kind of waiting and see and I do hope so that they will succeed, it’s our main goal.”
