WORCESTER, Mass. – On January 31st, the DCU Center was buzzing with excitement as the Worcester Railers Hockey Club hosted Banner 18 Night, celebrating the Boston Celtics’ recent championship win. The evening brought together hockey and basketball fans alike, as the city of Worcester proudly honored the Celtics’ 18th title.
The event kicked off with an incredible display of Boston pride as the Larry O’Brien trophy made its way to the arena for the night. Fans had the rare opportunity to snap photos with the coveted trophy from pre-game through the first intermission, making it a truly memorable experience. Whether it was Celtics gear or basketball jerseys, fans showed their colors and reveled in the city’s championship glory.
Intermission activations kept the energy high, offering fans a chance to participate in fun games. The highlight of the night? One lucky fan won the unforgettable experience of a Zamboni ride—a true once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for hockey lovers.
In addition to the celebration of Boston’s basketball success, the Railers made an important roster move, announcing the acquisition of forward Mark Cheremeta in a trade with the Orlando Solar Bears. Cheremeta, a 25-year-old rookie, joined the team after spending time with the Kalamazoo Wings and Orlando Solar Bears this season. With three points in 18 games, the 5’11” forward is eager to make his mark with the Railers.
Cheremeta’s journey to the Railers is a well-earned one. Before turning pro, he played five seasons of NCAA hockey between Boston University, Ohio State, and Sacred Heart University, recording 46 points in 112 games. His success didn’t stop there—Cheremeta also accumulated 138 points in 142 junior games across the USHL, NCDC, and USPHL Premier.
Head Coach and General Manager Nick Tuzzolino is excited to welcome Cheremeta to Worcester, adding another skilled forward to the Railers’ roster. The team hopes his offensive talents will help bolster their lineup as they continue their push through the season.
Banner 18 Night was a resounding success, with fans of both the Railers and Celtics celebrating their shared love for Boston sports. Though the event may have come and gone, the energy from the night still lingers as the Railers gear up for the rest of the season.
Looking Ahead: While the Celtics’ championship banner now hangs high in the TD Garden, the Railers are focused on their next challenge—continuing to build momentum with a newly strengthened roster.
