The Doherty Memorial High School Boys Volleyball teams faced off against South High School on Friday, March 28, 2025, in an intense showdown that had fans on the edge of their seats. While the Junior Varsity team put up a strong fight, ultimately falling 2-1, the Varsity squad came through with a commanding 5-0 victory.
Junior Varsity Fights Hard, Falls Short
The JV team, featuring players such as Micah Abbascia, David Aning-Dei, Aung Auronya, Tysean Dixon, Jovani Dutremble, Harshal Khawas, Jacob Le, Jayden Matias, Marius Mehillaj, Tadas Merkelis, Brian Nguyen, Henry Nguyen, Lukas Nguyen, Douglas Nyarko-Amagyei, and Illay Peres, started the night with high energy and determination. Despite their best efforts, South High took the win in a tight 2-1 match.
Varsity Team Secures an Impressive 5-0 Victory
The Varsity squad, composed of Kevin Bourget, Ben Dobson, Bernardo Dos Santos Pena, Joe Gerji, Cam Kelly, Ardenio Lezi, Elio Limanaj, Anthony Nguyen, Kenny Nguyen, Brendan O’Malley, Atticus O’Neil, and Johan Pinzon, dominated the court with a stellar performance.
One of the standout players of the night was Bernardo Dos Santos Pena, whose energy electrified the crowd. His numerous saves and assists played a crucial role in securing the victory for the Highlanders. Anthony Nguyen, Kenny Nguyen, Cam Kelly, and Brendan O’Malley showcased their skills as senior leaders, delivering powerful defensive plays, strategic assists, and relentless attacks that kept South High on their heels.
Additionally, Ben Dobson and Jayden Matias demonstrated their skill with strong serving and key assists, helping the team maintain momentum throughout the match. Their efforts, alongside the rest of the team, ensured a dominant performance and a well-earned win.
