Last week Doherty Memorial High School hosted a door decorating contest where multiple teachers decorated their doors, got into the holiday spirit, and then got judged. Many teachers were creative, materialistic, and on time. It was a very competitive but festive contest that brought people together and helped us get into the holiday spirit even more.
There were rules for the contest that the participants had to follow in order to take place in the contest and get judged thoroughly. The rules of the contest were simple. Participants must first have donated $5 to enter the contest. The door must have been on theme, must be their own door, and can use any types of materials to decorate their door as long as it did not ruin the door and damage it. You had to make sure your door was finished on December 12 since the judging took place on the following day.
The $5 fee was for Planting the Seed, a charitable organization in Worcester, Massachusetts. This was beneficial because the money went towards getting gift cards for teens. 50 doors participated, and with some additional donations, we were able to raise $500!
The doors were judged by the people in the yearbook committee. They all conversed with each other until they agreed with what score they would give a door. The doors were judged on details, materials, creativity, theme, visual appearance, school spirit, and effort.
We had multiple winners in this contest. Best materials went to Mr. Hackerson in E069, best theme went to Ms. Cohen in D501, most holiday spirit went to Mrs. Naço in C303, best went to Ms. Gonzales in B202, and most creative went to Mrs. Wilson in D304! But our overall winner this year at Doherty for the door contest was the Doherty Guidance Department. Congratulations to them and kudos to the other teachers who participated in this year’s contest!
