The Doherty Highlanders Boys Volleyball team is riding high after a pair of electric wins last week, dominating both North High School and Marlboro in style. The energy was through the roof as both the JV and Varsity teams brought their A-game to the court, making it clear: the Highlanders are a force to be reckoned with!
A Clean Sweep Over North High – April 9
On Wednesday, April 9, the Highlanders kicked off their winning streak with a commanding clean sweep against the North High Polar Bears. The JV squad came out swinging, securing a solid 2-0 victory. The Varsity team followed suit, taking down the Polar Bears in three straight sets: 25-13, 25-19, 26-24.
The Varsity team was firing on all cylinders, with standout performances from Cam Kely, who racked up 9 aces, 8 kills, 1 block, and 4 digs. Atticus O’Neil added to the action with 2 aces, 7 kills, 2 blocks, and 3 digs, while Bernardo Dos Santos played a pivotal role with 2 assists and 14 digs. The Highlanders, now sitting at 4-1 overall and 3-1 in Inter-High play, made it clear that they’re not just a team to watch — they’re a team to beat!
Crushing Marlboro – April 11
Fast forward to Friday, April 11, and the Highlanders were back at it again, this time facing off against the regional powerhouse, Marlboro. Both the JV and Varsity teams walked away victorious in another thrilling double-header sweep.
The JV squad was all business, winning their game 2-0 in a close, but hard-fought match that had fans on the edge of their seats. But the Varsity team? They weren’t messing around. In yet another 3-0 victory, they showed the Panthers who was boss with set scores of 25-19, 25-20, and 25-13.
Brendan O’Malley led the charge for the Highlanders with a massive performance — 8 kills, 1 assist, and 4 blocks. Kevin Bourget wasn’t far behind with 1 ace, 5 kills, 1 assist, 1 block, and 5 digs, while Ben Dobson added his own solid contributions with 1 ace, 5 kills, 1 block, and 2 digs. The Highlanders’ win over Marlboro (who was sitting at 6-1 prior to the game) is an impressive feat, showing that the Highlanders are hitting their stride after a tough loss to South High earlier in the season.
Looking Ahead
With a 5-1 record, the Highlanders are rolling and their spirits are high. The team’s energy, perseverance, and teamwork are undeniable, and with every match, they’re proving that they’re not just playing for wins — they’re playing to dominate. The boys are gearing up for even tougher challenges ahead, but if this week’s performances are any indication, the Highlanders are ready to keep sweeping their competition off their feet!
Let’s keep the momentum going, Highlanders!
