Doherty Memorial High School’s senior class had a blast at the Winter Carnival organized by the school’s Guidance Department last Friday, marking the completion of their college applications and celebrating an important milestone in their high school journey. With three-quarters of their college applications officially in the books, it was time to unwind, have fun, and reflect on all the hard work that’s gone into getting to this point.
The carnival was a lively and exciting event, featuring a range of games and activities designed to bring seniors together for some lighthearted fun before the stress of finals and final application deadlines takes over. The festivities included a towel race, where two participants worked together—one sitting on the towel while the other pulled them across the gym floor and weaved between cones before switching roles for the return leg. Laughter and cheers echoed through the gym as students showed off their speed and teamwork.
A photo booth with humorous pop-up props allowed students to capture moments of joy and camaraderie, ensuring everyone left with memories to last a lifetime. A variety of treats—including popcorn, donuts, and more—kept the energy high, while the game area offered plenty of options for friendly competition, including group catch and classic Connect Four.
The event was not just about fun; it was about coming together to celebrate a major accomplishment that marks the beginning of the next chapter.
Senior Davi Tavares reflected on the experience, saying, “Spending time with all the people I met through high school was really heartwarming. I’m thankful the school was able to organize that for us.” For Tavares, the carnival wasn’t just about having fun, but also about cherishing the friendships and memories forged throughout high school.
For Michael Tutu, the Winter Carnival offered a unique chance to reconnect with old friends. “I got to hang out with friends that I couldn’t hang out with since freshman year,” Tutu said. “It was nice to catch up and just enjoy the moment with everyone.”
The Winter Carnival not only served as a celebration of academic achievement, but also as a reminder of the strong sense of community and lasting friendships that have been formed during these senior years. For many students, it was a chance to pause, reflect, and look ahead with excitement for what comes next—whether that’s college, work, or another exciting adventure.
As the seniors now turn their focus to wrapping up their applications and preparing for the future, the Winter Carnival will remain a warm reminder of the bonds and memories they’ve created along the way.
