Excitement is buzzing through the halls of Doherty Memorial High School as the long-awaited return of Doherty TV (DTV) appears to be on the horizon. After a period of inactivity, the DTV crew was spotted filming and even participating in the Color Wars Pep Rally before the break. This has sparked speculation among students and staff about the revival of the beloved media team.
The last recorded footage from DTV was posted on January 24, before the team faced a temporary suspension due to a lack of productivity. However, under the guidance of Ms. Coonan, DTV is making its return with a renewed sense of direction and motivation. The Highlander’s Herald had the chance to sit down with Ms. Coonan and some of the DTV crew members to discuss what’s in store for this reboot.
The Future of DTV: Insights from Ms. Coonan
When asked about the key changes we can expect with the team’s return, Ms. Coonan shared that the format will remain familiar, with the same teams covering the same events, including regular weather and lunch segments. However, she emphasized that there will be more organization and collaboration among team members, alongside higher expectations to ensure quality content.
Reflecting on the lessons learned from the team’s timeout, Ms. Coonan highlighted the importance of structure while still allowing creativity to thrive. “Sometimes I’ll have to say no to certain ideas,” she explained, “but I also want to give them time to improve their concepts before moving forward.”
To keep the team motivated and engaged, Ms. Coonan plans to assign every member a task—whether big or small—to be completed by the end of each week. This structured approach aims to keep everyone accountable while fostering teamwork and responsibility.
When asked about innovations and new features, she remained tight-lipped, saying, “Gonna keep it a surprise, so stay tuned to DTV!” However, she did hint at increased collaboration across the school and efforts to incorporate equipment that the team has yet to fully utilize.
In addressing previous challenges, Ms. Coonan is focusing on involving all staff members, not just teachers, and featuring a greater variety of segments both inside and outside the school. She also stressed the importance of student and staff feedback in shaping future episodes, encouraging everyone to express their creativity and get involved.

DTV Through the Eyes of the Crew
Senior crew member Jordan Vecchio reflected on their experience in DTV, emphasizing how the class has met their expectations and helped them grow. “It has taught me a lot—like how to use cameras. Ms. Coonan’s a great teacher and great at giving instruction, and the work we produce is high quality.”
Jordan particularly enjoyed the creative freedom offered by projects like music videos and food reviews, citing them as personal favorites. Overcoming initial shyness in front of the camera, Jordan found that DTV gave them a newfound confidence: “I took it as an opportunity to put myself out there, and now I feel like myself again.”
Another key takeaway from their experience was patience—especially when dealing with multiple takes and perfecting shots. They recalled an instance where they and fellow crew member Jake Rivera took the initiative to create a Chicken Big Mac review despite not having an assigned project. “We didn’t want to do nothing, so we came up with the idea and brought it to Ms. Coonan, and it worked out pretty well.”
When asked about their preferred method of recording, Jordan expressed a preference for using phones over large cameras due to better quality. “It’s a hard question, but I’d much rather record on our phones.” They also highlighted the joy of teamwork in DTV: “You have multiple minds working together, and nothing can be replicated again—it’s always unique.”
Looking ahead, the team is working with iMovie, though access remains somewhat limited. Jordan sees the skills they’ve gained in DTV as valuable for personal projects, particularly in culinary arts, which they are passionate about.

What’s Next for DTV?
As anticipation builds, DTV is set to release its next episode on Friday, February 28, 2025. Be sure to catch the latest updates by visiting the Doherty website or checking out their YouTube channel.
