An intriguing two weeks, the Highlanders have been all speed and no stop. The girl’s basketball team is now 11-5, one more game than they needed to enter playoffs after the February break.

The Highlanders played St. Bernards for the second time January 30th. An away game, the girls came out with 46-39, another win under their belt. Their two dominant scorers were Hannah Kursonis for 15 as well as Ava Egonu with 12 points. Playing back to back games Friday night and Saturday afternoon, January 31st Doherty traveled to BTV, winning 41-38. Junior Yareli Sanchez had an ultimate 14 points with Ava Egonu following shortly behind with an overall 10.

A third away game in a row, Notre Dame Academy was defeated in a 45-26 rematch on February 4th. Kursonis and Egonu worked the paint and perimeter as a dynamic duo, both of them scoring 15 each Wednesday night. Gaining their seventh win in a row, the Lady Landers had a home game against Quaboag on February 6th. Quaboag scored 34 points though it wasn’t enough to top Doherty’s 50 points led by Analia Brown with 17 points, Kursonis 12, and Ava Egonu 10.

Reminiscing on the victories, they play again February 11th for Senior Night at their home court against St. Paul’s. The flame isn’t exhaust, the Highlanders still remain on top.
