Adult Swim’s hit animated sitcom Smiling Friends is officially ending after Season 3, despite previously being announced for two more seasons. The news arrived through an audio‑only announcement posted to Adult Swim’s X and YouTube accounts, where creators Zach Hadel and Michael Cusack confirmed the show’s conclusion.

“This is not a bit. This is not a joke.” Hadel opened the important message. “Michael and I are here to announce that Smiling Friends will be ending after Season 3 is done.” Cusack explained the reasoning being: “After we finished Season 3, Zach and I just both had the same feeling where we felt pretty burnt out after putting years and years into this, but also pretty accomplished. We just came to this feeling where we’re like, ‘I think that could just be it after Season 3.’”
Both emphasized that the decision was theirs, not Adult Swim’s, and that the network fully supported them.
How Smiling Friends Came About
Premiering in 2022, Smiling Friends follows Pim (Cusack), Charlie (Hadel), and their coworkers at a small company dedicated to bringing happiness to clients. Their Reasoning Behind Officially Ending

“We didn’t want to give fans half‑hearted slop,” Hadel said. “We’re so control freak‑y over it,” Cusack added, explaining why they wouldn’t hand the show off to other creatives.
Adult Swim respected their choice and left the door open for a possible return someday.
Hadel confirmed that two remaining Season 3 episodes will air April 12. He described them as: “Not big finales, ” “Little rogue planets, ” and “Stragglers” that weren’t meant to wrap up the series. They simply complete the season’s production slate.
The Series’ Impact
