A time of bittersweet memories and reminiscing, Senior Day captured the wonderfulness of having to let go while holding on tight for what’s ahead.
Senior Day was held on May 22nd, periods two to five. Countless planning was put into this event to make it worthwhile. The upcoming yearbook staff set up all first period along with the staff at Doherty. A process in itself, they had to first stir and blend the pancake mix, run it outside to the grill, bring the cooked pancakes inside and foil it, then place it on the table. This was occurring while other students and staff set the tables with tablecloths, cooked the pancakes on the grill, fill the syrup cups, then all the food on the table at the end. A good turn out, the students enjoyed the food and the hard work put into the senior breakfast during period two.
Kicking off period three after seniors ate and took pictures, Ms. Falcucci reined in the senior assembly in the auditorium by thanking everyone for their hard work all year and for the staff and students help on Senior Day. Inviting her current yearbook staff to the stage, her students congratulated their fellow classmates. Revealing who the yearbook was dedicated to, they spoke about the fondness for their classmate Harris Thompson Wolobah who has passed on. In loving memory of him and his kindness and other adoring attributes, he will forever be remembered in the class of 2026 not just for the dedication in their yearbook, but how he touched so many people’s hearts.
Later, most of the assembly was students receiving certificates for scholarships they received, getting a stole for credits earned doing Early College Worcester, a purple cord for the ICP program, or the nine students who received a free laptop. Doherty pride going strong, cheering and laughter was shared for the hard work put in throughout the seniors high school career.
Getting to the last big part of Senior Day, the seniors went to the gym to get their yearbooks, cap and gowns, and yearbook signings. A projector was displaying pictures from senior’s favorite events of the year. Students were then called by the letter of their last name to get up from the bleachers and go in the cheer room to receive their yearbooks, cap and gown, sunglasses, and do the senior survey if they hadn’t already. The yearbook staff led them to the senior table near the backdrop for pictures, there was a banner to sign for “senior sign out.” Students began signing each other’s yearbooks, sentiment in every word on the page.
Senior Day concluded after the fifth period but seniors had the option to visit their teachers classes for them to sign their yearbooks. A last day for many if they didn’t come back for the official last day on Tuesday, May 26th, we are sad to see them go but are hopeful for their bright futures.
Leaving you with one last thing, the seniors share their advice for incoming seniors.
“Find balance and make sure to enjoy your last year because it goes by so quick.”
“Don’t procrastinate your common app. I would also say to apply to many schools ranging from dream schools to also safety schools and make sure those safety schools are schools you imagine yourself going to.”
“Stay focused on your goals and have fun. Senior year is really easy if you get your work done and can enjoy it with friends. The only stressful part is college applications.”
“Just be prepared and stay on top of everything for college, but also remember to have fun and enjoy the final year of high school.”
“Make lots of memories and definitely get a job if you don’t have one already to help you learn to balance work and school.”
“Stay calm, stay focused, and stay on top of everything you do…Don’t procrastinate, don’t wait until the last minute, and don’t let distractions pull you off of your path.”
“I’d just say to make as many memories as possible with friends and make sure to focus on yourself on what your plans are after graduation.”
“Always ask for help when needed. Even though you might think all the other students have everything figured out, they’re also going through a lot. I know being a senior isn’t easy because you have to balance school, sports, work, family and friends, but always tell yourself that you are doing this for yourself, give yourself credit, and always remember that nobody is going to save you, you have to save yourself.”
