What if students ran the school? No bells, no tests, maybe vending machines in all the hallways, or would chaos take over? I asked students what they’d do if they were principal for a day, and their answers didn’t disappoint.
¨Principal¨ Messiah Jones (Sophomore)
Q: If you were the principal for a day, what is the first rule you’ll change?
A: I’ll allow students to use their phones throughout the day.
Q: What would your dream school day look like?
A: I’ll make sure art is first period, so everyone gets to draw in the morning. The rest of day would be normal.
¨Principal¨ Jp (Sophomore)
Q: Would you allow homework?
A: There would be no homework at all.
Q: Would you plan any special events or surprises for the students?
A: Yes, I’ll throw a huge party for all the students to enjoy themselves.
¨Principal¨ Yarielis Ortiz (Sophomore)
Q: What’s one thing you think the real principal should know about the student life?
A: That homework can be so tiring and exhausting for all students, especially after an already long day at school.
Q: If you woke up tomorrow and were suddenly the principal, what’s the first thing you’ll do?
A: I’ll take out the no phone rule. I’ll also give Chick-Fil-A and Chipotle for lunch.
¨Principal¨ Anderick Estrada (Sophomore)
Q: What would you serve for lunch if you can pick anything?
A: I serve lo-mein and buffalo chicken dip.
Q: Would you change the school schedule? If yes, then how?
A : I let students have a free period in the day as sort of a break. I’ll also add recess.
¨Principal¨ Anonymous (Sophomore)
Q: How would you make school less stressful for students?
A: I’ll take out finals because that usually stresses students out the most.
Q: Whats one rule you’ll immediately get rid of?
A: The 2 people at a time in the bathroom rule. Sometimes students really have to go but can’t because of the long line.
¨Principal¨ Anonymous (Sophomore)
Q: If you woke up tomorrow suddenly the principal, what’s the first thing you’ll do?
A: I would make school a little later, so it’s easier for students to actually wake up in the morning.
After hearing all these ideas, one thing’s clear: if students ran the school, it would be a wild mix of better lunches, fewer rules, and a lot more fun. It’s a good thing principals don’t hand over their job often… but it’s definitely entertaining to imagine what could happen if they did.
